Tangy Tomato Chutney

Tomato -My fav Vegetable..The first dish thz strikes our mind is tomato thokku...here is that..one of my friend over here...asked me is this SALSA.........
A different name to this??? She got it right ....in her way....thz good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ingredients:

Tomatoes 5
Onion 1
Red chilli 3
Green chilli 3
Garlic 5 cloves
Ginger ¼ tsp
Tamarind juice ½ cup
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Cumin powder 2 tsp
Coriander powder 1tsp
Coconut (shredded) 2 tsp
Pepper powder ½ tsp
Urad dhal 2tsp
Asafetida powder/Hing ¾ tsp
Mustard seeds 1tsp
Curry leaves 5 -6 sprigs
Coriander leaves to garnish
Oil 4 spoons(3sp->frying;1àseasoning)
Salt to taste

Method:

1)Wash the tomatoes and dice , put in a bowl.

2)Peal off the red onions and cut them in to very small pieces so that it can fry easily.

3)Heat the pan,to 2 tsp of oil,add urad dal cumin seeds,garlic,1/2 tsp of ginger,onions,urad dal ,channa dal , turmeric powder,chilli powder, coriander powder, coconut ,pepper powder and fry till golden brown.

4)Now add tomatoes ,salt to this mixture. Remember- don’t pour water.Jus mix once,add ½ cup of tamarind juice and close the pan with a lid…for about 10-15 min.

5)Tomatoes will squeeze out water and will come to a gravy consistency. When it comes to this levelness .Allow it to cool for some time and grind it coarsely .


6)Season it with 1 tsp of oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves and garnish with coriander leaves.



Best with :chappathi,dosa,appam,rava idli
